3-Counties Consider Regional Plan For Opioid Abuse

Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap counties are working towards a regional plan to address opioid abuse.

That from Clallam County public health officer Dr. Christopher Frank.

Frank says the three-county opioid response plan could supplement Clallam County’s efforts into decreasing opioid abuse and preventing deaths from overdose by expanding access to naloxone – a drug that can counteract heroin overdoses. That’s something Congressman Derek Kilmer is asking for as well.

Kilmers says Clallam county’s overdose death rate was 29.0 per 100,000 people in 2013, while the state rate was 14.8 per 100,000.

Frank said officials are setting up preliminary discussions about the three-county plan.
