Cooke Fined $332K For Net Pen Breach

Cooke Aquaculture Pacific was fined $332,000 on Tuesday for alleged violations of Washington state water quality laws.

That after hundreds of thousands of invasive Atlantic salmon were released last Aug 19 into waters famous for their native salmon.

The report from DFW, ecology and DNR says Cooke failed to adequately clean nets holding farmed salmon, leading to a net pen failure last summer that allowed the fish to swim away into Puget Sound.

Clallam County to Sue Opioid Makers

Clallam County is joining   more than 200 other litigants in suing opioid makers and wholesale distributors in federal district court for damages from flooding the market with prescription opioids.

County commissioners will hire Keller Rohrback LLC, a Seattle-based nationwide law firm, on a contingency basis to file the lawsuit on behalf of Clallam County in federal district court in Cleveland.

More Felonies Charged, Less Dropped in County

More felony cases are being charged in Clallam County – and less were declined for prosecution in 2017.  That according to Clallam County prosecutor Mark Nichols.

He says 665 felony cases were referred to prosecutors last year. 485 felony cases were charged

Nichols says that number of felony referrals is about the same as 2016, However he says prosecution was declined in just 86 cases.

Van De Wege Honored by WACOPS

Sen. Kevin Van De Wege, D-Sequim, was named 2017 Legislator of the Year this week by the Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS) for his support of legislation that affects law enforcement agencies and officers.

Forks High School to be Disaster Meeting Point
